Under the motto "Think globally, act locally to jointly achieve the Sustainable Development Goals", Mayor Michael Ludwig, alongside Ghada Waly, Director-General of the United Nations Office Vienna, renewed Vienna's commitment to the SDGs on 21 February 2025.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking representatives from international organizations based in Vienna, including IAEA Director General Mariano Grossi and UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller. In his speech, Mayor Ludwig emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in times of global crises. He also highlighted Vienna's role as the headquarters for over 40 international organizations, which provide 20,000 jobs in the city. 2025 also marks a major anniversary: The United Nations will be 80 years old.

A similar signing event, where the city publicly committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, took place in 2016 between Mayor Michael Häupl and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Since then, the City of Vienna has repeatedly reaffirmed the objectives outlined in the UN Agenda 2030.
