Vienna is most liveable city in Monocle 2023 ranking

This year, Vienna was voted number 1 in the "Monocle's Quality of Life Survey" for the 1st time.

The British magazine Monocle compiles an annual list of the most liveable cities in the world. This year, Vienna was ranked first in Monocle's Quality of Life Survey for the first time, jumping from 7th place last year to the top of the ranking.

Vienna convinced the Monocle editors with its large public transport offer, which is constantly being expanded, and with its excellent infrastructure. The feeling of safety due to the lowest crime rate in 20 years as well as affordable housing or cultural and leisure facilities were also included in the evaluation. The "Grätzl oases", which are intended to revitalise the neighbourhood, were also highlighted. Monocle generally describes Vienna as a "forward looking historic city".

Mayor Michael Ludwig: "We are of course very pleased with the 1st place as the most liveable city. As mayor, it makes me proud that Vienna is not only one of the safest cities in the world, but also that our efforts in climate protection and housing are internationally honoured. We do everything to ensure that people feel comfortable in Vienna. The honour is a mandate for us to continue to pursue Vienna's path ambitiously and consistently."
