Sister Cities Day in Brno

From 2 to 4 June 2025, the City of Brno organised the Sister Cities Day for the fourth time. This year, the event focused on architecture.

The programme included lectures and thematic workshops on the topics of restoration of interwar architecture, strategic cooperation and creative collaboration between the venue operator of the exhibition centre and the City of Brno, and the Brno Architectural Manual, an online guide to modern architecture. Participants came from the sister cities of Bratislava, Debrecen, Kharkiv, Kaunas, Leipzig, Leeds, Lviv, Poznan, St Pölten, Stuttgart, and Vienna. The aim is to connect the cities with each other. The conference also serves as a communication platform for exchanging ideas on current topics.

"I think opportunities to meet and share experiences are extremely valuable because they tear down barriers between people and nations and allow for efficient and, above all, friendly cooperation", said Anna Putnová, Member of the Brno City Council, in her opening speech.

Vienna's perspective is in demand

Laszlo Stern, expert of the City of Vienna's Department for Architecture and Urban Design, took part in the working group on the restoration of interwar architecture. His presentation focused on the topics of cityscape and functional interwar architecture in Vienna.

Brno is Vienna's oldest partner city, not only for obvious historical and geographical reasons. In addition to numerous joint projects, programmes, and mutual delegation visits, the Chief Executive Directors of Vienna and Brno meet annually, this time in Brno in spring.
