Sustainable museums and Strauss anniversary: Slovenian daily on research tour in Vienna
A journalist from the Slovenian daily newspaper Delo visited Vienna from 31 March to 2 April 2025 and researched green museums as well as activities on occasion of this year's Johann Strauss anniversary.
Museums are public institutions and fulfil an important social and political responsibility. Their engagement and outreach programmes educate, entertain and inspire people. Therefore, museums in Vienna focus on sustainability, not only with regard to content but also in their operations and day-to-day work. Visible and invisible processes in museum operations follow the highest possible ecological standards. This includes, for example, the careful use of resources and repairs instead of replacements. A long service life, the use of recycled raw materials, recyclability and environmental compatibility are key factors if the need arises to purchase new products.
The Museumsquartier and the Kunst Haus Wien are best practice examples of green museums in Vienna. The Slovenian journalist visited both institutions and had inspiring conversations there. He also paid lengthy visits to the Wien Museum and the new Prater Museum.
Johann Strauss 2025 Vienna
In 2025, Vienna celebrates the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss. The programme includes weekly premieres in several genres as well as indoor and outdoor events in all of Vienna's 23 districts. The Slovenian journalist conducted an in-depth interview with the management of "Johann Strauss 2025 Vienna" about the highlights of the programme and the King of Waltz. In concluding his visit, the journalist attended the contemporary music theatre piece "Das Lied am Rand der Welt oder Der Zigeunerbaron" ("The Edge of the World or the 'Gypsy Baron'"), which is based on the operetta by Johann Strauss.
