NutriAging - Research on healthy aging

The EU project NutriAging, a joint project of Austria and Slovakia, focused on increasing the nutritional and health awareness of senior citizens. A healthy lifestyle helps decrease the risk of suffering from chronic diseases and can lead to a longer life expectancy.

In their joint research project, the University of Vienna, the Comenius University in Bratislava and their project partners, sought to evaluate the effects of nutrition and physical activity on the quality of life in senior citizens. Among other benefits, the research led to the development of an information brochure titled "Healthy Aging - 60 questions focussing on nutrition and practical tips". Alongside theoretical tips, this brochure also includes practical suggestions on implementing a healthier way of living everyday life.

The project is aimed at supporting senior citizens as well as people working in the nursing and healthcare sectors. On Vienna's part, the project's strategical collaboration partners included the City of Vienna's Municipal Department for Education and Youth (MA 13), the Vienna Hospital Association, the Vienna Health Promotion company (WiG) and the Vienna Pensioner Residences Fund (Kuratorium Wiener Pensionisten-Wohnhäuser).
