Europe Day - celebrating 30 years of European education projects
To celebrate Europe Day on 9 May 2025 and the 30th anniversary of the European Office, as well as the 30th anniversary of Austria's membership in the EU, an event was held at the Vienna Board of Education.
Over 150 guests accepted the invitation from the Director of the Vienna Board of Education, Elisabeth Fuchs, to attend the ceremony. After opening speeches by the Federal Minister of Education, Christoph Wiederkehr, and the Executive City Councillor for Democracy, Jürgen Czernohorszky, the moderators honoured those who made significant contributions to international education in recent decades. Among them was Kurt Scholz, president of the Vienna Board of Education in 1995. This was followed by presentations of exemplary projects and achievements from the past 30 years, and students who had benefited from the EU education initiatives were invited onto the stage.
During the panel discussion on "30 Years of EU", European experts Michaela Kauer (Head of the EU Liaison Office of the City of Vienna in Brussels), Christiane Breznik (Head of the EU Funding Section, Municipal Department for European Affairs), Laura Schoch (City of Vienna's Office for Participation) and Petra Polgar (European Commission Representation in Austria) offered their views on the future of Europe. There were also greeting messages from Othmar Karas, Hannes Swoboda, Robert Menasse and Brigitte Ederer.
The event concluded with the performance of the children's choir "Young Republic".
Successful cooperation of the European Office and the City of Vienna
Caroline Jäckl, Head of the European Office of the Board of Education for Vienna, and Alena Sirka-Bred, Head of European and International Affairs Group at the Chief Executive Office, hosted the successful event, which reflected the long-standing successful cooperation between the two organisations.
