Delegation from Lviv focuses on architecture in Vienna

Seven people on one construction site

A high-ranking delegation from the Ukrainian city of Lviv has visited Vienna to exchange knowledge and experience on issues of urban planning and monument protection. The delegation headed by Lviv City Councillor Liubomyr Zubach comprised five experts from the fields of architecture, legal affairs, housing construction and monument protection, from the Lviv Department for the Protection of Historical Ensembles and from a local real estate developer.

Programme highlights

The delegation programme included expert presentations and discussions involving different departments of the Vienna City Administration, such as the Department for Urban Development and Planning (MA 18), where talks focused on Vienna's development towards becoming a CO2-neutral city. The Department of Architecture and Urban Design (MA 19) gave an overview of strategies for the preservation of the historic building stock in Vienna, with experts from both cities discussing the role of loft and attic room conversions in particular. The District Planning and Land Use Department (MA 21) provided insights into the specific framework conditions and legal requirements for successful urban development.

A site visit to the urban development area at Seestadt Aspern rounded off the programme, allowing the delegation to see how district development is implemented in practice in Vienna. Finally, the guided tour of the Spittelau waste incineration plant was of special interest to the Ukrainian guests as there are plans to build the first plant of this kind in Lviv.

City Councillor Liubomyr Zubach welcomed the outcome of the delegation and pointed out that Vienna and Lviv have a lot in common. "Given the many issues and features we share, we will intensify our cooperation", he explained.
