Film Festival on Rathausplatz

The 27th Film Festival in front of Vienna City Hall is held from 30 June to 3 September this year. Around 13 million people have visited the Film Festival, which has long become an absolute summertime highlight in the heart of Vienna.

The programme caters for all tastes, with top productions including operettas, concertos, ballet and contemporary dance performances as well as pop and jazz concerts. Full-HD technology, a high-performance sound system and a huge video screen of 300 m2 guarantee the audience may enjoy the music and videos with all senses.

In 2017, the program of the Viennese Film Festival once again invests in the unique and proven combination - great names and top productions of all genres.

Programme highlights

Classics fans can look forward to a range of stars, such as Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo, Elina Garanča, Juan Diego Flórez, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lang Lang and many more. Many of the great conductors and orchestras are also featured in the program - Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the State Opera Orchestra

This year, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, George Michael, Diana Krall, Depeche Mode, and the Rolling Stones will be causing thrills.

A beloved and well-attended tradition amongst the guests at the Rathausplatz is the additional musical live music at the weekends. Artist Saturdays are brimming with Austrian talent in the afternoons. Established local bands and singers enthuse "unplugged" from 3pm to 6.0pm in the park. Sundays from 12pm to 2.30pm are devoted to jazz.

26 popular eateries will set up stalls at this year’s Film Festival, offering mouth-watering food and delicious drinks on Rathausplatz. From 11 am to midnight every day, the audience may choose from a variety of local and international treats offered in prime quality.

For several years already, food and drinks on Rathausplatz are served in reusable dishes, which helps avoid many tons of unnecessary waste.
