Vienna has a well-developed public transport network. Buses, trains, trams and underground lines will take you almost anywhere in the city in no time at all. Vienna's public transport provider, Wiener Linien, operates five underground lines, 29 tram lines and more than 130 bus lines, of which more than 20 are night bus lines. Night buses operate between 0.30 am and 5 am. On weekends and public holidays the Vienna underground remains at the service of its passengers all night. The Wiener Linien vehicle fleet currently consists of over 500 tramcars and more than 450 buses. A single ticket costs 1.60 Euro (1.50 Euro if purchased online).

Passes
Apart from single tickets there are passes for longer periods of time. Passes are available for 1, 7 or 31 days, or for one year.
How to validate your ticket
Tickets must be validated before boarding. To validate your ticket, you need to stamp it at the blue machines located at the entrance of underground stations as well as on buses and trams.
Where are tickets valid?
Vienna public transport is part of the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) , the transport association for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. Vienna accounts for one full zone or core zone (Kernzone or "Zone 100"). A single ticket is valid for travelling one way in one zone. You may change lines while using a single ticket, but you may not interrupt your journey. Validated tickets can be used for all public transport lines (bus, tram, underground, train, Badner Bahn and most regional bus lines)
Barrier-free public transport
Public transport lines and stations in Vienna are largely barrier-free, but it is always best to plan your journey in advance. Important journey planning resources adapted for screen reader programmes is available online at www.wl-barrierefrei.at. The POPTIS navigation system provides helpful route planning information for blind and visually impaired passengers. POPTIS is available directly in underground stations and serves as a valuable orientation aid, for example when changing to other transport lines.
