Parking fees in Vienna

If you park a car in a short-term parking zone, you must pay parking fees. In Vienna, there are district-wide short-term parking zones and controlled parking zones in shopping streets.

You are required to pay parking fees for stopping or parking a multi-track motor vehicle in a controlled short-term parking zone. Please note that fees apply to both stopping and parking.

There are different options for paying on-street parking fees in Vienna:

Current parking fees

Parking fees from 1 January 2026:

  • Parking time 15 minutes (purple prepaid parking voucher): free of charge
  • 30 minutes (red prepaid parking voucher): 1.70 Euro
  • 60 minutes (blue prepaid parking voucher): 3.40 Euro
  • 90 minutes (green prepaid parking voucher): 5.10 Euro
  • 120 minutes (yellow prepaid parking voucher): 6.80 Euro

Since 1 July 2026, only prepaid parking vouchers ("Parkscheine") available at sales points for 1.70 Euro per 30 minutes are accepted as valid payment. Older parking vouchers (in the amount of 1.30 Euro for 30 minutes, 2.60 Euro for 60 Minutes, 3.90 Euro for 90 minutes, and 5.20 Euro for 120 minutes) that were valid until 30 June 2026 are no longer accepted.

Please note that parking vouchers cannot be returned or exchanged.

The legal basis for the increase in parking fees is the Parkometerabgabeverordnung (Vienna City Council Ordinance on fees payable for parking multi-track motor vehicles in controlled short-term parking zones).

Parking fees do not include VAT.

Where to place parking vouchers

Prepaid parking vouchers ("Parkscheine") must be displayed behind the windscreen of multi-track motor vehicles in a way that ensures they are clearly visible. If the vehicle does not have a windscreen, the parking voucher must be placed in a suitable place and must be clearly visible. If the staff of the on-street parking supervision team cannot see or read you parking voucher, they will issue a parking ticket (Strafzettel). Make sure that the parking voucher is still visible after you have shut the car door.

If you do not pay the parking fee, you will be issued with a parking ticket (Strafzettel) and you will also be charged with the parking fee. This means that you must pay the parking fee for any parking vouchers that have not been validated.

Flat rate payment

Parking fee – flat rate payment for all districts

You can pay the parking fees for one or several specific vehicles at a flat rate for all short-term parking zones in Vienna. You can make the flat rate payment of the parking fee for periods ranging from a minimum of four months to a maximum of 24 months.

Please note that the flat rate agreement is not an authorisation for unlimited parking. This means that you must still observe the maximum parking period in short-term parking zones (1.5 to a maximum of 3 hours, depending on the zone). Additionally, you must use a parking disc indicating when you parked your car. The disc must be placed inside the car and must be clearly visible from the outside.

Exemption from parking fees

Some drivers or vehicles are exempt from paying parking fees or can be exempted. These include, for example, people with disabilities, emergency vehicles, and public service vehicles.

Earmarking parking fees

Revenue from parking management is reserved for improvements to public transport infrastructure, road safety, park-and-ride facilities, new multi-storey car parks, and the promotion of cycling.
