The ViennaUP start-up festival impressed once again this year with its diverse and international programme. It attracted more than 14,000 participants from over 90 countries, as well as 28 international delegations. Among them was a delegation of media representatives from the eight sister cities of the City of Vienna's International Offices, who had the opportunity to explore Vienna's innovative side and expand their professional networks.
Vienna is a major hub for the life sciences in Europe. The event began with an in-depth tour of the Life Science Center Vienna. Life sciences and artificial intelligence (AI) are key technologies of the future. In Neu Marx neighbourhood, companies and start-ups have the space needed for pioneering research. A total of 646 renowned companies and 49,000 employees are already shaping Vienna as a life sciences hub, including internationally recognised scientists and researchers who are setting new standards in the field. The City of Vienna is systematically expanding its role as one of Europe's leading life sciences hubs and plans to create additional space for health innovations by 2029.
The day was rounded off by a visit to the ViennaUP Homebase. The Vienna Business Agency welcomed the media delegation with a presentation on its activities and a start-up. The guests then had the opportunity to network over Viennese wine, pretzels and jazz, as well as conducting some interviews.
Networking at the Smart City SuMMit
On the second day, the journalists attended the Smart City Summit. This year, the focus was on the circular economy and digitalisation. A series of inspiring keynote speeches showcased potential solutions, and the Climate Lab served as a networking platform for start-ups, industry experts, and decision-makers.
Afterwards, the media representatives created their own personalised ViennaUP programme and explored the city and its events at their own pace.
