Vienna’s Aid for Ukraine: 14 Emergency Vehicles

On June 25, 2026, Mayor Michael Ludwig handed over another fleet of emergency vehicles for Ukraine during a press briefing in front of the main fire station. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria, Vasyl Khymynets, and the Austrian Ambassador to Ukraine, Robert Müller, were also present for the send-off of the fire and rescue vehicles.
The 14 vehicles included four fully equipped heavy rescue/firefighting trucks, a turntable ladder truck, a hook-lift truck, a specialized vehicle for diving operations, two smaller VW Caddy multi-purpose vehicles, a command vehicle, a passenger car, and three ambulances. The vehicles are destined for use in the city of Sumy in eastern Ukraine - a region near the front line that frequently comes under Russian fire. In a severely affected region like Sumy, a functioning emergency response infrastructure is crucial for supporting the population under extremely difficult conditions.
The transfer of the Viennese emergency vehicles to Sumy was organized by Municipal Department 27 in close cooperation with Municipal Departments 68 and 70 and the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The European Union is covering the cost of transport via low-loader trucks.
Hospital supplies save lives
On June 11, 2026, another truck carrying more than 5 tons of aid was loaded in Vienna-Ottakring and dispatched to Ukraine. The cargo consisted mainly of hospital beds, as well as medical equipment and several rescue backpacks.
Since the outbreak of war on February 22, 2022, the City of Vienna has already delivered 535 tons of aid to hospitals in Ukraine using 89 trucks. The supplies from the current aid shipment will be used in the area around the capital, Kyiv.
