Energy map

The Vienna Solar Map 2025 shows the potential which roofs in Vienna are suitable for using solar energy to generate heat (solar thermal generation) or electricity (photovoltaics).

Approximately one third of Vienna's area is well suited for using near-surface geothermal energy and ground water for energy purposes. In addition to providing information to Vienna's citizens, this map is also an important tool for regional energy planning.

This map layer shows subsidised plants for the utilisation of solar energy, hydropower, wind power, biomass and landfill gas, as well as conventional power plants and waste incinerators.

The map layer for innovative energy projects shows training institutions for energy-related jobs, new energy-efficient buildings, refurbished buildings, innovative energy generation, and plus energy projects.

The map identifies sections of Vienna’s sewer network that have the potential for thermal utilisation, based on dry-weather flow rates in litres per second.
