The kindergarten year begins in September. The main registration period for a place in a municipal kindergarten takes place in November and December of the previous year. You can register your child online (German)
If you register your child during the main registration period, you have the best chance of obtaining a place at one of your preferred kindergarten locations starting in September of the following year.
The exact date of registration during the main registration period is not important. Places are not allocated on a first come, first served basis but according to specific allocation criteria.
You will be informed by the end of March at the latest whether your child has been offered a place in a municipal kindergarten and, if so, at which location.
Customer number for private kindergartens
If you want to register your child in a private kindergarten, you have to apply for a customer number at one of the service centres of the City of Vienna’s Kindergartens Department. You can apply for it by e-mail or post.
If you register your child in a municipal kindergarten, you will receive this customer number automatically.

The service hotline 01 277 55 55 is open from 7:30 am until 6 pm. The staff of the service hotline will provide you with free information material and the addresses of the service centres.
