Fees - Municipal and Provincial Archives of Vienna

As a government department, we are obliged to charge for some of our public services, including research and digitalization of documents.

Free services

All research that is done by yourself in our reading room is free of charge. We will also provide you with short information on our archival records and how to access them. To view original documents in the reading room you have to order them at least one day in advance. This service is free, but legal or conservational restrictions may prevent the use of some documents.

Service fee for research, guided tours and more

If you cannot visit the archives yourself or send us a research request we will do the research on your behalf for a service fee of EUR 35 per half an hour. This service includes research for up to two hours. The same fee applies to information from the historical household registration records. Please note that the fee will be charged even if the research yields no result.

Our service fee also applies to guided tours (usually one hour), to the assistence of film crews (up to EUR 450 per day) and to the cutting and editing of clips from our historical film archives.

Fees for digitalisation

If you need digital copies of documents we charge the research fee plus EUR 1 per page up to and including size A3 and EUR 2 per page larger than size A3. In case of even larger or delicate documents like plans, maps or glass plates negatives we charge EUR 35 per half an hour. Please note that a processing fee of EUR 10 will apply.

Legal basis

The prices we charge are set out on a legal basis and are based on recovering the costs of providing the services: Municipal council resolution from October 24th 2014, 02698-2014/0001-GKU.
