Generating a link to a specific plan excerpt

Bookmark function of the wien.at online city map

Creating a link to a specific section of the wien.at City Map is very easy. You can then embed the link in another website, bookmark it in your web browser, or send it by e-mail.

To generate a permanent link to the current map view, simply click on the button Link/bookmark directly above the map window. The new link will include the current map content options, the map background selected (map, black-and-white map, aerial photo) and all labelling and address display options you have activated, as well as the map scale currently used.

If you are saving a map search result, the search address will be circled in red for better visibility - both in the original map and in the direct link map. In this case, however, the map scale and section will automatically be adapted so the search address is shown at the centre of the map.

Adding an address

If you add an address to a link generated via "Link/bookmark", this will automatically start the map search function. If the search produces a single result (address), the link will take you to a map with the search result circled in red.

For instance, you can generate a direct link to an aerial view map ("aerophoto") with the content display option "Museum" (selected from the list below the heading "Show on the map"). In this case, the direct link could be as follows:

http://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/en/grafik.aspx?lang=en&bookmark=rx1SRqLQKUbmrEFFTyPTREFSphlnSnnkur2pH4Oprw-b-b

Adding "&address=Michaelerplatz" to this link would produce a map that displays all museums near the square called Michaelerplatz:

http://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/en/grafik.aspx?lang=en&bookmark=rx1SRqLQKUbmrEFFTyPTREFSphlnSnnkur2pH4Oprw-b-b&address=Michaelerplatz

You can also add a street number to the name of the street or square. In this case, please make sure the search produces a single, unambiguous result, and the result corresponds to the address you had in mind.
