A delegation from Copenhagen visits Vienna

Even a highly developed city like Copenhagen looks to Vienna as a role model. In 2025, the capital of Denmark successfully competed with Vienna for the title of "most liveable city in the world".

Interest in the Vienna model of social housing

At the end of September 2025, a four-member delegation from the Copenhagen City Administration's departments for urban development, housing, and finance, travelled to Vienna to learn about the city's successful model of social housing.

After a brief discussion with the European and International Affairs Group at the Chief Executive Office, an in-depth exchange took place with the Urban Innovation Vienna, the climate and innovation agency of the City of Vienna. The participants focused on the topic of housing and the Phasing Out Gas programme.

The discussions were followed by further theoretical input from an expert from the Department for Housing Promotion and Arbitration Board for Legal Housing Matters. The visit was rounded off with a tour of the Sonnwendviertel urban development area.

The Copenhagen delegation gave very positive feedback after the intensive programme: "It felt like half a year of university, packed into a single day."
