Reading Room of the Municipal and Provincial Archives of Vienna
Specific records like death certificates can be used on microfilm. If any original document is unavailable on microfilm it takes a day to deliver them to the reading room. Calculate plenty of time for your stay to find, order and of course, read your documents.
What to bring with you:
- Proof of Identity: driver's licence, passport or identity card
- Notebook, notepad, ring binder or portable computer
- For security reasons you will be obliged to leave coats and bags in lockers.
- One two-euro coin as returnable deposit for a locker
- Please bring as much background information as you can on your enquiry. This will enable our staff to give you the best possible advice about how to conduct your research. If you are in any doubt, contact our enquiry service in advance.
If you have found specific references to records held in our archives while studying published books be sure to make a full note of these and bring it with you when you visit us.
Please remember that the reading room is a quiet area and that we all have the responsibility to treat our holdings carefully. With your help we can ensure that future generations will have the pleasure of using these precious resources (please see: Regulations of the Municipal and Provincial Archives of Vienna).
