Library of the Municipal and Provincial Archives of Vienna

Having developed from a collection of scientific reference books, the library of the Archives grew very much especially in the 1960s when it took over the library of the Verein für Geschichte der Stadt Wien. Today, 98.500 volumes are kept in the library. The focal points of the collection are Viennese and urban history and archival science. Also available is a collection of newspaper clippings regarding municipal policy (from 1978 on). It is possible to search for a specific book in an online catalogue.

Political Documentation

In 1977, a Political Documentation was established. Complementarily to the records coming from municipal administration, it collects documents regarding all the political trends from political parties and movements. This has led to the formation of the section defined as Parties, Associations and Citizens' Initiatives. The documentation contains about 500 periodicals as well as political magazines, posters, flyers and internal protocols. Various parts of this collection can be accessed through the online catalogue as well.
