Parking fees in Vienna

If you park a car in a short-term parking zone, you are required to pay a parking fee. There are short-term parking zones in all districts of Vienna and in shopping streets.

If you stop or park a multi-track motor vehicle in a chargeable short-term parking zone, you are required to pay a parking fee. Please note that you must pay a parking fee for both stopping and parking.

Please note that parking vouchers cannot be returned or exchanged. This regulation entered into force on 1 January 2020.

The Parkometerabgabeverordnung (Vienna City Council Ordinance on paying fees for parking multi-track motor vehicles in chargeable short-term parking zones) is the legal basis for the increase of parking fees.

Parking fees do not include VAT.

Where to place parking vouchers

Parking vouchers must be placed behind the windscreen of multi-track motor vehicles and must be clearly visible. If there is no windscreen, the parking voucher must be placed in a suitable place and must be clearly visible. If the parking voucher is not visible for the staff of on-street parking supervision, they issue a parking ticket (Strafzettel). Make sure that the parking voucher is still visible once you have shut the car door.

If you do not pay the parking fee, you will be issued with a parking ticket (Strafzettel) and you will also be charged with the parking fee. This means that you must pay the parking fee for any parking vouchers that have not been validated.

Parking fee – flat rate payment for all districts

You can pay the parking fees for one or several specific vehicles at a flat rate for all short-term parking zones in Vienna. You can make the flat rate payment of the parking fee for periods ranging from a minimum of four months to a maximum of 24 months.

Please note that the flat rate agreement is not an authorisation for unlimited parking. This means that you must still observe the maximum parking period in short-term parking zones (1.5 to a maximum of 3 hours, depending on the zone). Additionally, you must use a parking disc indicating when you parked your car. The disc must be placed inside the car and must be clearly visible from the outside.

Exemption from parking fees

Some people or vehicles are exempt from paying parking fees or can be exempted. These include, for example, people with disabilities, emergency vehicles, and public service vehicles.
