Data protection information pursuant to Article 13 GDPR StartWien Newsletter

Please note that, provided you have explicitly consented to the relevant type of processing and have thus given your consent under data protection law, the data you provided or the personal data indicated below will be processed for the following public relations purposes:

Consent to receiving the newsletter

Purpose:

  • Management of the list of subscribers to the StartWien Newsletter
  • Electronic mailing of information about StartWien events and multilingual offers at regular intervals

Legal basis:

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)

The purpose of this type of data processing is to provide you with information about StartWien events and multilingual offers as you requested. When you receive the newsletter, technical data required for using the service will be collected automatically, in addition to the data (e-mail address) you provided yourself. Overall, the following types of data will be processed in this case:

  • E-mail address
  • Time of day and IP address at the time you subscribed by double opt-in (which means that after registering your data, you receive an e-mail to confirm your subscription once again).

We will process your data solely for the purpose of managing and disseminating the newsletter or replying to inquiries.

Consent to statistical evaluation

Purpose:

  • Analysis of newsletter use (e-mail opening and click behaviour, terminal device)

Legal basis:

  • Consent of the data subject

To be able to offer you an interesting newsletter, we will, following your optional and separate consent, collect statistical data on whether a newsletter was opened or not, which links in the newsletter users clicked on, or what type of terminal device (desktop/mobile) and operating system was used to open a newsletter. We will not use such analyses for individualised evaluation. No automated decision-making, including profiling, scoring or similar, will take place.

How the statistical evaluation works: When we send out the newsletter, a tracking pixel - a transparent image 1x1 pixels in size - will be invisibly embedded in an HTML e-mail. When a user opens the e-mail, the tracking pixel will be downloaded from the web server, so it can be unambiguously assigned to the respective user based on the e-mail. This allows us to statistically evaluate when and how often the newsletter was opened. With link counts, the links contained in the HTML newsletter are specially coded, so we can analyse which link was clicked on how many times. This provides us with feedback on which offers in the newsletter attract the most interest, so we can optimise the content we offer accordingly. The data collected will not be used to personalise links.

Overall, the following types of data will be processed for this purpose:

  • E-mail address
  • Date and time when the e-mail was received and opened and links were clicked on
  • Number of e-mail openings
  • Number of link clicks
  • Type of terminal device (desktop/mobile)
  • Operating system of the terminal device used to open the specific newsletter

We use the double opt-in (DOI) procedure for disseminating our newsletter. You will not get a newsletter sent to you unless you open the e-mail we send you and click on the link contained in it to confirm your subscription.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. You can withdraw your consent to receiving the newsletter and also your consent to statistical evaluation at any time, with effect for the future, by sending an e-mail to startwien@ma17.wien.gv.at and informing us about your decision. You can also directly unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by clicking on the Unsubscribe link at the end of each newsletter. If you withdraw your consent, the newsletter will no longer be sent to you or the data for statistical evaluation will no longer be collected.

No register queries will be carried out in the course of this procedure. The personal data of newsletter and statistical evaluation subscribers will not be transferred to third parties. The data is processed within our own organisation. The data application used for the purposes of the newsletter (including the mail server used for dissemination) is hosted on the IT systems of the Information Technology Department (MA01) of the Vienna City Administration.

We will process the data you provide to us only for as long as we have your consent to receiving the newsletter or your consent to statistical evaluation. If you withdraw your consent to any of these options, all your personal data will be erased. Data will not be reused for any other purposes.

Please note

You are under no obligation to provide your data to us. If you do not provide an e-mail address, we cannot send you a newsletter. If you do not consent to making your data available for analysis, no statistical evaluation will take place, but you can still receive the newsletter.

You have the right to obtain information about the personal data concerning you (Article 15 GDPR). In addition, you have the right to have incorrect or incomplete data rectified or completed (Article 16 GDPR), the right to have your data erased (Article 17 GDPR), the right to data portability (Article 20 GDPR), and the right to restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR).

If you have given consent to your personal data being processed, you have the right, under Article 7 GDPR, to withdraw your consent at any time. Such withdrawal will not affect the lawfulness of any data processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.

If you believe that your rights are being violated or are not being respected sufficiently, you have the option of lodging a complaint with the data protection authority.
