33 Levers for a Circular Vienna
The very title sets the tone: “Circular Vienna – the Strategy to Save Resources in Our City” brings together, citywide, the fields of action and the activities needed to send a clear signal against the wasteful use of our resources and our environment. We are very pleased that we have succeeded in developing and shaping this strategy across all executive groups. This has laid an essential foundation for developing closely coordinated measures in the future. Vienna is one of the most liveable cities, and it should remain so well into the future.
The circular economy opens up another important dimension for a sustainable Vienna. Together with our action programmes on climate mitigation and climate adaptation, a resource-saving approach contributes in many different ways to safeguarding the natural foundations of life.
It goes without saying that, in doing so, we are also setting clear goals for a good life for everyone - goals that reach far beyond environmental protection. A resource-saving approach counters every form of wastefulness and contributes to a socially just and affordable life. This begins with the way we handle food, with sustainable consumption and exemplary waste management, and extends to the reuse of goods and materials, the resource-saving use of soil resources, and the renovation of buildings instead of demolition wherever that makes sense.
Across all these areas - and many more besides - the strategy to save resources in our city identifies a total of 33 levers across nine fields of action. We will continue to further develop these levers over the coming years and underpin them with numerous measures.
