On occasion of the first Fundamental Rights Forum (FRF), the Human Rights Office organised two workshops and a school competition in cooperation with the organiser of the Forum, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. The workshops dealt with the topics "Culture of Human Rights" and "Meeting of Human Rights Cities". 450 children from all school age groups participated in the school competition. The opening of the Forum was held at Vienna City Hall.

International networking activities

Since its opening, the Human Rights Office welcomed numerous delegations and visitor groups. In June 2016, for example, a delegation of mayors, city councillors and public officials from 15 European cities visited the Human Rights Office. The participants learned more about institutions that are best practice examples with regard to human rights in Vienna.

"Human Rights talk" in the Human Rights Office

Several activities took place in April 2016 that were initiated by the Gesellschaftsklimabündnis, the alliance to improve the social climate in Austria. In cooperation with the Austrian Automobile Association ÖAMTC, the Human Rights Office held office hours where participants had the opportunity to discuss and learn more about human rights and diversity.

International Human Rights Day

On 10 December 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Human Rights Day is therefore observed across the world on 10 December. The City of Vienna as city of human rights also celebrates Human Rights Day every year.

The City of Vienna organised several events on occasion of the International Human Rights Day 2016. Deputy Mayor Maria Vassilakou and Executive City Councillors Sandra Frauenberger, Sonja Wehsely and Andreas Mailath-Pokorny published a joint press release to underline the City of Vienna’s commitment as human rights city. The Human Rights Coordinator Shams Asadi held a speech at an event on occasion of Human Rights Day and presented Vienna as city of human rights at the Vienna House, the City of Vienna’s liaison office in Brussels.
