Students in Uzhhorod learned about different methods of composting and built 2 vermicomposters together. Vermicompost is a high-quality fertilizer to improve soil fertility. The workshop was organised and carried out in cooperation with the local NGO "Ecosphera". In Lviv, representatives from the NGOs "PLATO", "Permaculture in Ukraine", "Ecoterra" and from the City Council Department for the Environment participated in the workshop.

The association "Gartenpolylog Wien" (Gardeners of the World cooperate) presented Austrian and Viennese community gardening projects, which have an ecological as well as an educational focus and contribute to the social integration of refugees and migrants. After the two-day workshop, a composter was built in the community garden in Zalizna Voda Park.

Focus on ecology

Ecology is one of the focuses of the work of the OeAD Cooperation Office and of the international cultural work of the Austrian Ministry of European and International Affairs. With its expertise and importance for ecological projects, the City of Vienna is often chosen as a partner and exports best practice examples internationally.

Geographic focus

Ukraine is one of the geographic focus countries of the City of Vienna's international activities, which have covered many different areas over the years. A specific focus has been put on humanitarian aid. Cultural projects have also been implemented with local partners such as the Austrian Library in Drohobych.
