Autumn Seminar of Austria Libraries Abroad
The 18th Vienna Seminar "Sustainability Pioneer Library" for the employees of the 65 Austrian Libraries was dedicated to book culture and literature in the age of artificial intelligence. Austria Libraries Abroad are present in 28 countries, mainly in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, as well as in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Guided tours
The seminar began at the headquarters of the Austrian Publishers Association with a talk on the Austrian book industry by Alexander Potyka, Chairperson of the Austrian Publishers Association. Participants also enjoyed a tour of the Mohr Morawa book distribution centre and an introduction to the use of AI at the Austrian National Library.
Guided tours of the Friederike Mayröcker exhibition at the Literature Museum and the Karl Kraus exhibition at the Vienna City Library, a discussion with Nicolas Mahler about his Kafka volumes at the Austrian Literature Society (ÖGfL) and a presentation of the City of Vienna's literature programme focused on Austrian literature. The seminar concluded with a special tour of the newly expanded Wien Museum.
Participants
The 20 participants came from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine.
Cooperation
The Vienna Seminars of the Austria Libraries Abroad are a cooperation of the International Cultural Relations at the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs with the Diplomatische Akademie Wien - Vienna School of International Studies. They are organised in cooperation with the Austrian Literature Society (ÖGfL), the City of Vienna, the Swiss Embassy in Austria and, this time, the Austrian Publishers and Booksellers Association.
