During her official state visit to Austria from 26 to 28 May 2021, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid also visited the capital city of Austria. In between official meetings in the presence of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, her schedule also included a meeting with Vienna's Mayor Michael Ludwig on 26 May.

During her visit to Vienna City Hall, President Kaljulaid officially signed the Golden Book of Honour of Vienna. Estonia is of particular importance for Vienna because it is known as a pioneer of digital technology in the EU - especially in the fields of e-government and digital citizen services.

Exchange on smart city topic and mobility

President Kersti Kaljulaid came to Austria with a business delegation headed by Andres Sutt, Estonia's Minister for Entrepreneurship and Information Technology. On 27 May the delegation met with experts from the Vienna City Administration and Wiener Linien at Restaurant Rathauskeller to exchange know-how and experience in the fields of mobility and smart city development.

The delegation's programme for the afternoon included an on-site visit of aspern Die Seestadt Wiens. The Urban Living Lab in this new part of Vienna is a test bed for innovative technologies and concepts in various fields, ranging from urban planning and mobility to energy research. The Estonian delegation was particularly interested in the driverless minibus that is currently being tested by Wiener Linien here.
