Election of the Federal President 2022 in Vienna

The election of the Federal President takes place on Sunday, 9 October 2022.

Austrian citizens, who had their primary residence in Vienna on the qualifying date (9 August 2022) and who have reached the age of 16 on or before election day are entitled to vote.

EU citizens and third-country citizens are not entitled to vote in the election of the Federal President!

How to cast your vote

Polling stations are open in Vienna on election day from 7am to 5pm. To cast your vote, you need to bring a valid photo ID (passport, driving license, personal identity card, student identity card, etc.) to the polling station.

If you are not sure whether you can come to your allocated polling station on election day, you can cast your vote by voting card (Wahlkarte) at any polling station in Austria or by post. You can apply for a voting card in writing (online, email, fax, or letter) by Wednesday, 5 October 2022, or in person by Friday, 7 October 2022, 12 noon, at the electoral office (Wahlreferat) of your municipal district office (Magistratisches Bezirksamt).
