Requirements for entry to a part-time vocational school (BS)

Students, to be admitted to a part-time vocational school, must have concluded the relevant articles of apprenticeship.
For further procedures (registration) apprentices are referred to the firm they are trained at.

Requirements for entry to an intermediate or higher-level vocational school (BMHS)

Applications for attendance of a BMHS may be made to the principal of the chosen school from the first Monday following semester break onwards. The following documents are required: birth certificate, proof of residence (Meldezettel), proof of student's nationality and student's level 8 school report (semester report).

To be admitted students must have successfully completed level eight of the school system, in some cases additional entrance exams are required.

Who has to take an entrance exam?

All applicants must have successfully completed level 8 of the Austrian school system ( for AHS students compulsory subjects Latin, geometry, compulsory subjects selected by the school und special focus subjects are not relevant!).
Entrance exams for BMHS schools become necessary only where the student does not meet required assessment marks for German, mathematics, and a living foreign language.

Attendance of one- or two-year BMS (intermediate vocational schools) requires successful completion of level 8 only.

For some BMHS schools with emphasis on arts, as well as for training schools for nursery school teachers additional aptitude tests may apply.
