The best minds for Vienna

Vienna is an attractive workplace for international top researchers, and in dual career couples both partners often have excellent qualifications that are sought after in Vienna. However, the employment opportunities for the partners of top researchers can be limited. The Dual Career Service Support (DCSS) of the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) therefore provides advice and support to the partners of senior research staff appointments in Vienna as this also benefits the city as a science and research location.

International top researchers and their partners get the best advice to support their decision about moving and get a realistic picture of their career opportunities in Vienna. The researchers and their families should be able to settle in as quickly as possible and feel at home in their new surroundings.

Promoting universities in the Vienna region

The universities that cooperate with the Dual Career Service provide ample information about further training, family concerns, leisure time, healthcare, immigration, residence registration and much more. They also support appointed senior research staff in finding a place at day care or school for their children.

The Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) has many years of experience as private and non-profit funding organisation in the Vienna region and acts independently. The initiative started in 2013 and has since supported 46 partners who were all highly-skilled academics too. 14 people have successfully been placed in top jobs and 20 are currently in the process of finding a workplace. All in all, there is an ever increasing demand for the Dual Career Service.

Decisions in favour of Vienna

The Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) provides information and placement processes for partner organisations. The aim is to set up contacts between the partners of top researchers and potential employers as early as possible to influence the decision-making process in favour of Vienna. Because decisions are often made around the dinner table, especially if they regard the future career of the couple and the whole family moving to a new city.

The Dual Career Service takes place in close coordination with Universities Austria (uniko) and the Dual Career Service Vienna – Lower Austria – Upper Austria.

Dual career opportunities as brain gain

13 universities and research institutions in Vienna and Lower Austria are partner organisations of the Dual Career Service Support of the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF). The initiative does not receive any public funding but is financed to a large extent through the contributions of members.
