Procedure

Applicants are responsible for providing the no-stopping signs that need to be set up. The road signs can either be purchased in well-stocked DIY markets or borrowed from Department for Waste Management, Street Cleaning and Vehicle Fleet (MA 48).

Setting up and removing the road signs:

  • The no-stopping signs must be set up at least 24 hours before the no-stopping zone takes effect.
  • Fill in the annex form ("Beiblatt") you have received with the administrative decision. It requires you to record the model and registration number of all vehicles that are parked in the prospective no-stopping zone when the road signs are set up.
  • Obtain an official police confirmation for setting up the road signs from the responsible police station. For this, you will need to bring the administrative decision and completed form ("Bescheid" and "Beiblatt") with you to the police station. If any vehicles are still parked in the specified zone at the time when the no-stopping zone takes effect, you can have them removed by order of the police. Please note: If any vehicles were already parked in the designated zone at the time when the road signs were set up (as recorded in the "Beiblatt" form) you as the applicant will have to bear the costs of removing (towing). If the vehicle was parked in the designated zone after the road signs were set up, the competent authority must demand reimbursement of the towing costs from the vehicle owner, except if the costs were already paid by the vehicle owner when they picked up the vehicle.
  • Once you have completed the purpose the no-stopping zone was established for, or once the approved duration of the no-stopping zone has expired, you need to remove the road signs and obtain a confirmation of removal from the responsible police station. The "Beiblatt" form must then be returned to MA 46.

Documents required

Your written application must contain the following information:

  • Name (and birth date), or registered name of the company (incl. company register number and VAT number) as well as phone number or e-mail address of the applicant for any queries
  • Exact location where the temporary no-stopping zone is to be established
  • Purpose of the temporary no-stopping zone
  • Length of the temporary no-stopping zone (in metres)
  • Day(s) of validity, including the exact beginning and end times of the no-stopping zone

A practical suggestion: instead of applying for a temporary no-stopping zone, you may want to consider legally parking a private vehicle at the given location beforehand, and parking it elsewhere as soon as the removal van arrives. This allows you to make sure the space you need for the removal van (or other temporary purpose) is not occupied by another car - without having to go through the application process specified above.
