Memorial sites and cemeteries for the victims of National Socialism
Memorial sites include those for Jewish victims of the Shoah (the persecution and mass murder of European Jews by the Nazis during World War II) in the city temple, as well as memorials on Judenplatz, Albertinaplatz and Morzinplatz. Memorial plaque at Donaupark
Every year in late October the committee for "justice for victims of Nazi military law" commemorates the deserters from the German Wehrmacht and members of the Vienna Fire Brigade who were executed at the former military training place in Kagran (today Donaupark). Between 1938 and 1945 hundreds were killed there by firing squads for desertion or demoralisation of the troops. Surviving Wehrmacht deserters remember their murdered comrades during the ceremonial laying of a wreath.
