Vienna to host Velo-city 2013
From 11 to 14 June 2013, cycling experts and passionate cyclists from all parts of the world will meet in Vienna for the the Velo-city conference.

Velo-city, the world’s most important cycling planning conference, will be held at Vienna City Hall from 11 to 14 June 2013.
The Austrian federal capital has been selected as host city by the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF). Under the motto "The Sound of Cycling. Urban Cycling Cultures", experts will meet for four days to exchange opinions, discuss current developments in the field of cycling traffic, and try to find new ways of promoting this form of transport at an international level.
Local cycling culture in Vienna
Deputy Mayor Maria Vassilakou:
Vienna is a city of music and culture. "The Sound of Cycling. Urban Cycling Cultures" is a motto that connects this Viennese specialty to the topic of the conference. After all, apart from cultivating its traditional focus on music and theatre, our city has been developing its very own cycling culture for several years.
Application procedure and programme
Vienna was selected as a host city from a number of highly qualified applicants, notably Nantes and the Dutch BrabantStad region. One of the main criteria was Vienna's key role as a connecting link to Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The Velo-city conference, which will be held in and in front of Vienna City Hall, is expected to attract up to 1,500 participants from all parts of the world. The local population will equally profit from the colourful programme of cycling-related events held at the same time.
