Prepaid parking vouchers - old and new

A 30 minute parking voucher will cost EUR 1.
New parking fees for short-term parking come into effect in Vienna from 1 March 2012. New parking vouchers are already available at 340 tobacconists’ shops, ticket offices of Wiener Linien (Vorverkaufsstellen), and cash offices of the City of Vienna (Wiener Stadtkassen). The new 30 minute parking vouchers are EUR 1 each and a one hour parking voucher costs EUR 2. Old parking vouchers are valid until 29 February 2012. The City of Vienna recommends to use up all old parking vouchers before that date.
Reduced price for resident parking permit
From March 2012, prices for the resident parking permit (often dubbed "Parkpickerl" or parking sticker) in Vienna will be reduced while fees for short-term parking and fines for parking offences are set to increase. Measures to relieve the parking shortage in Vienna are to improve air quality and provide more space in the city.
Starting 1 March, the "Parkpickerl" will cost EUR 10 instead of the current price of EUR 12. This means the annual price including application fees and administrative charges will only be about EUR 179 per applicant in the future.
At the same time, the fees for short-term parking - paid in the form of prepaid parking vouchers ("Parkscheine") - will be raised to EUR 1 for a 30 minute voucher, EUR 2 for 60 minutes, EUR 3 for 90 minutes and EUR 4 for 120 minutes. Parking offences will be subject to a fine of EUR 36 (instead of EUR 21) from 1 March.
Exchanging old parking vouchers, refund for resident parking permits
As the pricing reform enters into force on 1 March 2012, old parking vouchers will no longer be valid from this day.
Up to 30 old parking vouchers at a time can be exchanged:
- until 31 May 2012 in about 200 tobacco shops ("Trafiken") in Vienna, against payment of the price difference.
- until 31 May 2012 in all Wiener Linien (Vienna Public Transport) ticket offices
- until the end of August 2012 in all City of Vienna cash offices (Stadtkassen).
At the central cash office ("Stadthauptkasse") at Vienna City Hall, old parking vouchers can be returned or exchanged against new ones (against payment of the price difference) in unlimited numbers until the end of August 2012.
Old parking vouchers can also be mailed to the central cash office (address: Stadthauptkasse, 1010 Vienna, Rathaus, Stiege 7, Hochparterre). Please do not forget to include your bank details (national bank code, account number, name of account holder).
Refund for old parking stickers
Due to the pricing reform, the cost of resident parking permits ("parking stickers") will equally be reduced from March 2012. If you still hold a parking sticker you have purchased for the previous price, a refund of EUR 1.25 will be credited to your account until the old sticker is no longer valid.
If you pay by bank transfer form ("Zahlschein") to extend the validity period of your parking sticker, the credit will automatically be taken into account, reducing the total parking fee charged. In general, the amount credited is deducted from the fees payable for your next parking sticker application.
Upon the customers' express application, credits over EUR 5 can also be paid out directly. Applications can already be made now. The refund is transferred to your account from 1. March 2012. Application forms are provided by Municipal District Offices ("Bezirksämter") and will also be available online from February. 2012
