Vienna Science and Technology Fund
The Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) provides financial support for research and scientific work in Vienna. With an annual budget of approximately EUR seven million, the WWTF supports innovative research initiatives that fall within defined thematic key areas. An overarching goal of the organisation is the promotion of Vienna as a location for cutting edge research activity.

The city's Centre for Innovation and Technology (ZIT) belongs to the Vienna Business Agency and was founded in the year 2000. It was established to support the innovation process through a number of measures including direct financial support and by supplying technological infrastructure. Furthermore, the centre regularly surveys the development and dynamism within the technology sector. Such findings are valuable when articulating new support strategies and programmes.

The city of Vienna founded the agency to facilitate networking between economic and creative businesses, to provide grants tailored to the creative sector and to identify new business opportunities. Departure is influenced by economic considerations, but it recognises that artists require freedom and is not interested in the direct commercialisation of creative work.

The Vienna Fund for Innovative Interdisciplinary Cancer Research (Fonds der Stadt Wien für innovative interdisziplinäre Krebsforschung) promotes innovative projects in the field of cancer research that expand the biological understanding regarding the diagnosis and therapy of malignant diseases. Through the encouragement of further work on cancer research, the fund recognises the achievements and importance of medical research in the Vienna.

The Vienna Anniversary Foundation for Higher Education (Hochschuljubiläumsstiftung der Stadt Wien) was established in 1965 to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the University of Vienna. Funding is made available annually, to small and independent scientific projects carried out in higher education institutions. Under some circumstances financial support may also be awarded to scientific associations or qualified individuals that are based in Vienna.

A fundamental goal of this fund is the promotion of scientific economic research to strengthen and improve the local economy via knowledge dissemination.

The Medical-Scientific Fund of the Mayor of Vienna (Medizinisch-Wissenschaftlicher Fonds des Bürgermeisters der Bundeshauptstadt Wien), which exists since 1978, encourages scientific activities of doctors in Vienna and documents the findings of their research.

The Vienna Victor Frankl-Fund for the Advancement of Sensory Humanistic Psychotherapy (Viktor Frankl-Fonds der Stadt Wien zur Förderung einer sinnorientierten humanistischen Psychotherapie), called into life in 1999, seeks to stimulate further research on sensory humanistic psychotherapy. It aims to strengthen and intensify psychotherapeutic research, thus securing Vienna’s reputation as the capital of psychotherapy. The fund was set up to honour and document the achievements of the doctor and psychotherapist Victor Frankl.

The city of Vienna annually awards 13 prizes in the categories music, literature, science, national education, visual arts and architecture. These Vienna Funding Awards are given to individuals that have made exceptional overall contributions in the aforementioned fields. The criteria for award eligibility state that persons must have lived in Vienna for over 3 years and should be under 40 years of age.

The INiTS centre (the Academic Business Incubator) was set up in 2000 as academic funding service. Its goal is to increase the rate of technology and knowledge based business start-ups. INiTS acts as an academic incubator, by providing support and advice for young entrepreneurs. The activities of INiTS are targeted towards students, graduates and staff of Universities in Vienna.

The equity fund Wiener Risikokapitalfonds was established in 1997 to support SME in Vienna. The fund provides financial support for a variety of uses. These include:
- Business start-ups with promising ideas
- Takeovers of successful businesses
- Business growth and expanding into new markets
- Establishing R&D departments in companies and innovative product development
- Improving quality, occupying new market niches and utilising new technologies
- Improving the urban structure
