The Vienna Ice World 2012 - A Fairytale on Ice

The Vienna Ice World 2012 opens on 20 January with a newly designed ice rink of more than 7,000 square metres in front of Vienna City Hall. Ticket prices are the same as last year but there are many new features this year such as the cosy alpine mountain cabin and the extended ice-skating trail in the southern part of the park.

Map of the Vienna Ice World 2012

The Vienna Ice Dream has been a unique event for many years. In 2011 about 510,000 ice skaters enjoyed ice skating on the fairytale ice rink between Vienna City Hall and Ringstraße ring road that covered 6,000 square metres. This year the ice rink covers 7,000 square metres and the ice-skating trail is three times as long as last year. The organisers are convinced that the Vienna Ice World 2012 will attract even more visitors.

Extended ice-skating trail in the southern part of the park

The entire southern part of the park is turned into a romantic ice world for the first time this year. The ice-skating trail offers many different ways to skate through the park and take a break from the large ice rink on Rathausplatz.

Cosy atmosphere in new alpine mountain cabin

As every year the popular Radio Wien disco will again entertain all ice skaters and guests. If you need a little break you can indulge in the many culinary delights such as crispy waffles and baked potatoes prepared by seven caterers who also offer hot and cold drinks to quench your thirst. You can also relax and enjoy some hearty food at the new alpine mountain cabin.

Curling lanes

The curling lanes are open from Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 10 pm. At all other times (Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and all day on weekends) children and beginners can use the curling lanes for free to improve their ice skating skills. There are also ten of the popular "penguin" ice skating supports for beginners.

School promotion

The Vienna Ice World is open for free to kindergarten, school and after school care groups from Vienna and their accompanying teachers also in 2012. Registered childminders (Tagesmütter) must submit an ID card. The school promotion is valid on school days from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Kindergarten and school groups also get a reduction from the skate rental operator and can rent ice skates for EUR 3 per pair. Double blade ice skates, helmets and wardrobes are available for free for kindergarten and school groups while stocks last. There is no age limit for school children in 2012 as we want all children of primary and lower secondary schools to avail of the school promotion.

Reductions for children during semester break

During the semester break from 6 to 10 February children’s tickets are only EUR 3 instead of EUR 4.50. There is a deposit of EUR 2 when buying a ticket that you will get back when you return the ticket.

Skate rental and helmets

The ice skate rental operator has a choice of more than 1,200 pairs of ice skates. They are available in sizes 23 to 52 and are prewarmed. Safety is our top priority: In addition to free helmets, you can also get free double blade ice skates in sizes 21 to 25 for the youngest ice skaters.
