vieW4 - networking for working groups

What is vieW4?

vieW4 (vienna World Wide Web Workgroups) is a web-based infrastructure developed by Municipal Department 14 - Automated Data Processing, Information and Communications Technology (MA 14) to support project-oriented and networked cooperation between different working groups of all sizes and in different locations. Efficient tools for group-oriented working are available on user-friendly surfaces. The open source software can be downloaded free of charge without specific requirements from SourceForge.net: vieW4.

vieW4 manages documents of different formats (such as Office and Open Office, PDF, HTML templates, appointments, contacts) and provides an alternative to existing MS Office based solutions. vieW4 is used to list tasks for individual working groups, set deadlines and assign these tasks to working group members. Project-oriented documents are prepared, processed and copied. Each working group member is entitled to use the available documents and discuss them with other group members. Changes in tasks, deadlines or documents are made transparent by clearly marking each new version. Working group members are automatically informed of their working group's activities upon request. The search engine integrated in vieW4 covers all document types. MS Office, Open Office and PDF documents, amongst others, are found via full text search.

vieW4 is part of an expandable platform which includes integration of a Content Management System (CMS), based on which contents developed in vieW4 can be published on the internet (such as wien.at). Through linking working group processes (vieW4) to publication of contents (CMS) the entire life cycle of documents from preparation to publication and archiving can be covered.
