Organisation and Costs

The fees for a dream wedding are between EUR 550 and EUR 650 depending on the number of documents involved. There will usually also be additional fees for the location. Please ask the operator of the (dream) wedding location about further details.

Renting the Location

The first step is to choose your dream wedding location. If you choose a dream wedding location from the list, please get in touch with the contact person to clarify all details regarding the wedding date and booking conditions. If you wish to get married at any other location, please submit an application to the registry office when you file your registration for marriage. Municipal Department 35 - Immigration, Citizenship, and Registry Offices (MA 35) will examine if the location meets all the requirements to be commissioned as a wedding location.

The location must be commissioned as a business facility (Betriebsanlagengenehmigung) and/or have a permission pursuant to the Vienna Events Act / Vienna Event Locations Act (Veranstaltungsgesetz).

The operator of the location must agree that Municipal Department 35 is entitled to submit inquiries to the competent Municipal District Office (authority for business registrations) and to Municipal Department 36 - Inspection of Business Establishments, Electrical and Gas Equipment, Fire Prevention and Official Authorisation of Events (MA 36) and ask them if there have been any specific entries or records.

The civil partners and the operator of the wedding location are obliged to hold the City of Vienna harmless from all resulting liability, claims, demands, damages and costs regarding the official ceremony on location.

Please note that the commissioning will take some time. We would therefore ask you to contact the registry office at least two months before your desired wedding date.

Giving Notice of Marriage

Please file a registration for marriage (give notice of marriage) at the registry office of the district you live in, after you have booked the wedding location. You can give notice of marriage six months before the wedding date at the earliest. If you do not have a residence in Austria please contact the Municipal Department 35 - Immigration, Citizenship, and Registry Offices (MA 35), Fachbereich Personenstand - Zentrale Agenden/Namensänderungen

When you file a registration for marriage, the registry office will check if both partners fulfil all the requirements for marriage. Please note that you can only get married if you fulfil these requirements. Please ask your registry office in due time which documents you will have to submit.
