Costs involved in obtaining Citizenship

In principle, obtaining citizenship involves federal fees (the same throughout Austria) and provincial administrative fees (different rates for each province). The table below gives an overview of the fees payable to the Office of the Vienna Provincial Government (Amt der Wiener Landesregierung). Additional costs include application fees and costs for providing the necessary documents. For detailed information, please contact the responsible case officer.

Costs for obtaining Austrian Citizenship (as of 16 May 2007)

Legal Claim to Citizenship

  • Single persons: EUR 700 federal fee plus EUR 76 provincial administrative fee
  • Married couples: EUR 1,400 federal fee plus EUR 152 provincial administrative fee

Conditions for obtaining citizenship based on a legal claim

Naturalisation at the Authorities’ Discretion

  • Single persons: EUR 900 federal fee plus EUR 150 provincial administrative fee
  • Married couples: EUR 1,600 federal fee plus EUR 226 provincial administrative fee

Conditions for being granted citizenship at the authorities’ discretion

Extension of Citizenship to Minor Children

EUR 200 in federal fees and EUR 76 in provincial administrative fees are payable per child (in all cases).
